Various treatments for acne

Acne is a skin problem that is found in young adults between the ages of 11 to 20. In the adolescent age, the skin may develop red spots and pimples in the face, neck, shoulders and the back. This is because of the hormonal changes in the young adults. But for some people acne persists even at age of 30. For these people proper treatments must be taken to protect the skin. For the adolescent people no specific treatments are necessary as acne will go away after the age of 20. Acne is caused by the bacteria P.acnes that develop when the oil and the dirt combines and will rupture the dermis layer of the skin causing pimples.

When the acne has affected the skin it will produce pimples, pustules or red spots depending on the person. The treatment for acne depends on the type of the skin. The age of the affected person is also important for treating acne as adolescent people require mild treatments. To treat acne the cause for the development of acne is important. After identifying the cause, the doctor will analyze the skin type of the patient. Not all skin types are treated the same. Depending on the location of acne, the treatment differs. The treatment prescribed for acne in the face is not applicable for acne in the other parts such as the shoulders and the neck.

In young adults acne is caused due to the irregularities in the hormone secretion at the stages of puberty. As a result, the sebaceous glands are activated and they produce more sebum that catch the dirt and cause acne. For other people who have crossed the adolescent age acne is caused by infection in the skin.

There must be full cooperation from the patient for treating acne completely. Acne treatments always produce the result after a few days. You must be patient and should follow the instructions of the doctor. You must never scratch your pimples as it will cause further infection.

The personal hygiene plays a major role in the treatment of acne. The doctor will suggest the patient to wash the face regularly so that dirt does not stay on the skin. When the dirt combines with the oil secreted by the sebaceous gland, it will lead to the development of acne causing bacteria. Hence it becomes essential to wash the face regularly when you are under acne treatment.

Some of these products are applied on the skin to control the pain in the pimples. Some medicines are taken internally to fight against the bacteria. For some people both of these medicines are prescribed.

Accutane is a popular medicine that is prescribed for curing acne. This is a pill that is taken internally to prevent the functioning of pores that will lead to acne spots. This also provides a slow cure for acne. It does not prevent the further infection but reduces the itchiness and reddish spots in the skin. This medicine has severe side effects. It may lead to drying of lips, cracks in the lips and for some people this medicine has caused cracks in the skin. Because of these adverse side effects, Accutane is prescribed only for those who are suffering from severe acne.

Retin–a is another type of medicine that is prescribed for acne. This medicine contains vitamin extracts and can fight against the infection. This medicine can be prescribed for people of any age and for any cause. This medicine can cure acne scars, acne spots and wrinkles due to acne. Laser therapy costs a bit lower but it is not as effective as the photodynamic therapy. Laser treatment has to be taken frequently so that acne doesn’t appear again. Depending on the intensity of the laser used in the therapy, the frequency reduces.

Various home remedies are also followed for treating with acne. Dermatologists suggest certain home treatments along with the prescription. It is not possible for young adults to prevent acne as it is due to the puberty. For other adults, acne can be controlled when proper measures are taken.
